1st and 2nd ed. say, " Of special interest to residents of Michigan is The Land of the Crooked Tree, found on old maps as L'Arbre Croche, on the northern tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan. The period of the 1870's and 1880's is the background; Mr. Hedrick said of the book, "...not an autobiography, although it is brazenly personal from beginning to end. " It is dedicated "To the Memory of my parents, pioneers in the land of the crooked tree."
