What is the aim or goal of your writing: 2nd ed. says, "I am presently being absorbed into the great Maya, Aztec, and Inca Empires and I feel it is important for someone to retell these great stories and tales which few North Americans have ever given considerable thought to. So a projected project has me researching, processing into a contemporary vernacular, and re-telling these 'American' literatures. Perhaps in a few years I will cross the Rio Grande River and begin work with North American tribes, acting as a kind of 'wide translator' of their stories, but until I run out of stories to the south, I imagine to wonder around Mexico, Central America and Peru for a long time. I am hoping to work as 'adapter and chronicler' at the same time." Contemporary Authors says, "'Geopoetics' is a term coined by Tom Montag to describe the early issues of Salthouse. I've used the term as a subtitle to a large anthology, An American Anthology, as well as a 'catch phrase' to describe my own work in historical improvisation. My interest in re-writing history, especially American conquistador history, began in 1975 when Howard McCord introduced me to the holy texts of the ancient Mayas, Aztecs, Incas, as well as tales of singular 'heroic' conquistadors, including deVaca and Coronado.
