"To bring about a better understanding of the American way of life."
2nd ed. says, "The idea of the Art of Living books is to provide in brief two page essays the Arts of the Good Life, a philosophy of life in brief, easy to read form. Thirty of these essays were published in This Week Magazine circulated through 42 big city Sunday papers to 14 million families. A million copies of my books are in print. Hallmark, since 1966 has put out an annual Art of Living Calendar containing condensations of essays from my books and have also used my material in cards and booklets."
