What is the aim or goal of your writing: It is quite selfish: to explore things that bother or excite me in order to clarify or identify or simply illuminate without solving these things. I am interested in fear and fantasy and how they serve us. I am concerned about the dreadful educational provisions for our very poor. I never know what will push me into another book (and when). 2nd ed, says, "I am self taught, both as a writer and illustrator. In other words, my formal education ended when I graduated from high school in 1948. For myself, I learn better and more deeply on my own. I am strongly self directed and would not recommend discontinuing formal education to anyone who isn't. I did have formal training both as an actress and a modern dancer. I have performed professionally on television and the stage."
