What is the aim or goal of your writing:
"To teach, to reach, to enlighten. Our area has a unique and fascinating history which has been largely ignored by general American history textbooks. I believe that I owe it to my pupils to give them a sense of pride in the local heritage and the contributions our area has made to the building of the American dream. I also derive a great sense of satisfaction in preserving in words some of the colorful happening of this small town and country area. Recording events as history gives the people here some feeling for the great accomplishments of their forebears. Ontaonagon was the hub of the first mineral rush in U.S. history. We have had lumbering, oil drilling, education firsts (Ontonagon schools were the first tax supported schools in the U.P., possibly in the state!), Ontonagon had the first telephone exchange in Michigan in 1877, etc."
