What is the aim or goal of your writing: 2nd ed. says, "Ben East has had a distinguished career in illustrated travel and adventure lectures, 1938-1951. He appeared at National Geographic Society, Maryland Academy of Science, Philadelphia Academy of Science, American Museum of Natural History, Explorers Club, and George Pierrot's World Adventure Series. He has lectured to audiences as small as 12 in number and as large as 70,000." Contemporary Authors says, "Ben East is wellknown as a writer, photgrapher, and filmer of the North American wilderness. Initially, East gained recognition as the first person to film an Alaskan sea otter in color (1941)." Much of my writing has dealt with major conservation problems confronting the nation. I have produced...articles for Outdoor Life on such environmentally destructive practices as strip mining, channelization, unethical use of aircraft to take trophy game, political interference in wildlife affairs, the indiscriminate use of pesticides, and the damming of wild and scenic rivers and streams.

Other Comments:

Though Ben East is most remembered as a writer he was also an early and important conservationist. He was deeply committed to preserving Michigan's natural beauty and was instrumental in gaining State Park status for both Tahquamenon Falls and the Porcupine Mountains. He also played a major role in securing Isle Royale as a National Park. He was involved in a number of conservation organizations and won the Michigan United Conservation Clubs Conservation Award in 1971 as well the Michigan Environmental Award and formal recognition by the Michigan state legislature, both in 1973.
