What is the aim or goal of your writing:
2nd ed. says, "Having lived and traveled extensively in Europe and Africa, I am forced to confront life, particularly in my writing, from a broadly-based view and perspective. Nominee, 1972, Pulitizer Prize in Journalism, however, did not receive the prize."
Contemporary Authors says, "In my fiction and non-fiction, I want to show-and perhaps reassure myself-that people, of every culture and language, share sorrow, anguish and the problems of survival, and yet are able to live and grow and retain their essential humaneness. He lived in West Africa for two years, a venture that he says resulted in Black Portrait of an African Journey. His experiences among the Oglala Sioux, he writes, are largely responsible for my contributions to Other Voices, a simple, direct artistic and literary view of a remarkable people."
