What is the aim or goal of your writing: My mother taught me to read at a young age (three). By the time I was in fourth grade, I was reading at a college level. With such an avid interest in reading I developed an interest in writing. I have been writing from as early as I can remember. In high school, I started writing poetry and had three poems published--two in a book and one in a magazine. From poetry I turned to short stories but soon abandoned them in favor of what I most wanted to do: write novels. In 1994, I wrote my first novel. Over the course of the next 12 years I re-wrote it many times and submitted it to publishers and agents, finally landing a publishing contract in 2005. I will soon be starting on my fifth novel. I attribute my success to being an avid reader along with a great deal of patience and persistence. It took nine years of submissions before finding a publisher for my first novel. I had to read through a lot of rejections during those years but I never stopped writing or stopped submitting.
