Other Comments:
Ivan Swift was an artist and poet who resided in Harbor Springs throughout much of his life. His art and poetry were significantly influenced by his life in northern Michigan and his paintings, often displayed at the Detroit Museum of Art (now Detroit Institute of Art), received numerous awards in the early 1900s.
Northern Michigan was a great influence on Mr. Swift's art and writing.H developed Chippewa Cove Woods, an artists’ colony north of Harbor Springs, where he and other artists would visit to renew their artistic spirit.
Many of Mr. Swifts books of poetry were printed on his own press in Harbor Springs and bound in his own workshop there.
