What is the aim or goal of your writing:
2nd ed. says, " One perfect definition of poetry, not the only perfect definition, but a perfect definition is that it is the relaxation of the unconscious. Folklore is the poetry of history. Like poetry, folklore satisfies certain psychological needs we all have, I think, to create, to hope and to sense the possibilities in each of us. I love history but it's more appealing to be a folklorist than a historian, dealing with data. I just love to go beyond that. And folklore is a way of celebrating our past, of taking a look at ourselves. I use simple language. I don't hunt around to use big words and I don't try to use lots of words of embellishment. I come from peole who speak simply and directly, and I guess I'm comfortable speaking that way. It seems to me, anyway, that the finest art, whatever it might be--writing, music, artifact, whatever--has a certain simpleness about it which reaches out and touches the souls of everyone. It stands between you and me, between one culture and another. It brings the ocean to the land, so to speak."

Founded and Directs - Project Harmony, Inc. has sought to help the community in numerous ways: self-help programs; economic development; environmental education; tutoring underserved youth, tree-pruning & urban forestry projects, and more. Founded in 1985 on a treeless, rubble-strewn lot, the Joseph Daniel Wilson Memorial Garden originally occupied twice the space it now inhabits. |
