What is the aim or goal of your writing: "Through my writing I hope to interpret for readers meaningful segments of the human experience in eighteenth and nineteenth-century North America. I believe that we can only comprehend the present if we understand the truth of our past. I hope that, in some small measure, my writing may help achieve that end." 2nd ed. says, "I think historical narratives should include ample illustration that are closely related to the text. Publications for the general public should be garded as exhibits of the subject under consideration."
