What is the aim or goal of your writing: I will tell you what I try to accomplish when I write. The poetry I write is in the form of cinquains. I prefer poetry that allows one to spend more time savoring the thought, image or emotion it creates than analyzing its meaning. Cinquains give the writer just enough words to convey concise "word pictures". If it is done successfully, the reader will easily remember it and the poem will evoke in that reader, some significant thought or emotion each time it comes to mind. I aim to convey a thought that is totally transparent and wish to avoid obscuring it with excessive imagery. I wish to say the obvious in a way that will cause the reader to reflect on something that they might not have otherwise done. My prose is frequently written on topics about which I first have to educate myself. That way, each project is a learning experience for me. I then try to convey what I have learned to the reader in a way that is as far removed from textbook style as I can make it. Having been a scientist, I don't think the scientist and the writer are very different. Scientists are curious about their world and use specific tools to analyze and explain it. Writers and poets really do the same thing--only the tools are different.
