What is the aim or goal of your writing:
When I discovered my love of writing, I completed a correspondence course through the Institute of Children's Literature. The course taught me the craft of writing, and the importance of criticism, editing, and re-writing.
I spent the following years writing stories, books, ideas, anything just for myself, without trying to get any material published. I wrote because I loved to write. I had always enjoyed the story of Joesph in the Bible and, with my history degree, knew how to find historical information. I researched the book, and tried to write it two or three times in the next few years without success. In April, 2000, when the Review and Herald Publishing Association sent editors to Andrews University looking for book ideas, I proposed the book to them. They accepted; and after updating my research, I finished the book in three months. Lots of hard work, but as a Christian, I believe the Lord guided the timing.
I try to do something involving writing for at least two hours each day. This does not have to be actual composing, but could be research, reading, or working out a plot. I also spend time editing stories/books I have previously written to sharpen my skills. When composing a book, I try to work at least six hours a day, more if possible.
