What is the aim or goal of your writing: 2nd ed says, "I have written for any number of magazines including the best ones-Reader's Digest, Saturday Evening Post, New Yorker, New York Times Sunday Magazine, etc. Most work, obviously has been in general areas, primarily automotive and labor, rather than fiction--though I wrote fiction in earlier years. I believe the prime function of writing is to communicate something-an idea, a set of facts, an emotion or emotions-and in so doing to demonstrate development. The best writing is basic writing, because only with basics can the writer reach and affect the largest number of readers."
