He began as a reporter at The Cheboygan Daily Tribune in 1927 and stayed, pounding out stories on an old Remington typewriter he had bought for $1 until his death. The Michigan Press Association said last year that it knew of no other reporter or editor in the state who had held one job longer than Turner .
