What is the aim or goal of your writing: 2nd ed. says, ""In an article published by the Detroit Free Press, Judith Guest calls writing 'My escape, my terror, my compulsion, my life.' About seven years (1973) ago she began writing seriously and submitted a short story for a Reader's Digest contest. There were one hundred prizes and her story received 60th place. Her next short story was the beginning of her highly-acclaimed first novel, Ordinary People. She says, 'After I finished my short story, I realized I wasn't ready to put the characters down, that I had more to say about them. So, I thought, I'll write something about what happened to them before and what happened after. And before I knew what I was doing, I was writing a novel.' " Her great uncle was Edgar Guest."
