What is the aim or goal of your writing:
1st ed says, "I was born in Ironwood, but most of my schooling was received in Denver and in Oregon, where I taught for 3 years. I'm never bored; the world is too full of interesting things to do. Writing for young people is to me the most interesting and satisfying work there is. Young people themselves are fascinating and they make up an enthusastic audience. Mrs. Garst is well known for her fine biographies of men and women who helped blaze the trail to freedom and progress." When she started writing biographies of virile western men she worried that boys wouldn't pick up a book with a woman's name on it.

Other Comments:
She used her step-father's surname because she didn't believe anyone would read a western book by a woman. She co-authored 3 books with her son Warren.
