What is the aim or goal of your writing: I wrote "Grandpa's Tooth" because of many requests from school children, after they heard the story, to write a book for their school libraries. A desire to add Michigan history literature to schools that would challenge young minds to further research and exploration was also a factor. I promised my father that I would write his story to be passed down to family. I believe success can be attributed to great grahpic design, illustrations, expert advice, a college course in writing, encouragement from teacher and chiuldren. The Mastodon was named Micgigan's Official State Fossil while I was completing the book, creating interest in learning more about jpre-historic Michigan. Children especially enjoy the book and dream of digging up a Mastodon bone in their backyards. I take the actual 50,000-year-old Mastodon tooth to the schools and allow children and adults to hold the tooth, inspect and ask questions.
