What is the aim or goal of your writing:
"As a youthful seaman on Great Lakes freighters I developed an interest in the history of transportation on American waterways.
That interest, still continuing, has led to the writing of most of my books.
I am especially drawn to Upper Michigan and the entire Lake Superior country.
The best literary sources I have found for an understanding of that region are represented in my anthology The Great Lakes Reader Macmillan 1966."
