What is the aim or goal of your writing: I write instruction books about the folk arts to enable others to try their hand at painting these charming forms of decorations. I always give the history of the origins of these folk arts. 2nd ed. says, "I am a true folk artist as I have no formal art training. I try to offer as clearly as possible insight into the charming simplicity of folk decoration. The books I have written are pure how-to-do-it in Norwegian folk art and Early American folk art. I hope to encourage people to create their own heirlooms of tomorow-today. Thus they will spend leisure time in a productive and satisfying way; to leave pleasure giving monuments instead of just the granite markers in well tended cemeteries. I am, of my own choosing, a folk artist, not a fine artist. But I feel I am a fine craftsman producing useful objects in ths 20th century."
