What is the aim or goal of your writing:
In 2nd ed., She says, " In I-can't-tell-how-many-years of writing and of publishing I have found that poetry is human speech made musical. To be 'a successful poem' the lyrics must achieve an intensity of communication. No matter how difficult or 'heavy' the message I am expressing in a poem it has to perform itself beyond its difficulties, beyond the unphrasable but phrased emotion. The poem has to generate its own context. After finishing a poem I sometimes have no idea why I selected each phrase, why I thought it complete, what I intended to do with it and why it 'jells'. I am seldom concerned with the form, the poetic diction, allusions, metaphors, etc., because I have had rigorous training instructed forms, in the use of all these things so that they come naturally. This training in sonnet, ballad, the French forms, etc., I find indispensable to good poetry composition."
