What is the aim or goal of your writing:
"My mother was a terrific writer, mostly of poetry and essays. She was Irish and, together with her father and brothers, full of verbal wit. I learned to read early and have always loved to read and write. When I was in college and graduate school, there were no creative writing courses, so when I was asked to teach creative writing at the college level, I was initially rather overwhelmed. My students helped me gain confidence as a writer, however, and, in the later years of my career, my poetry writing courses were my favorites. I also wrote many feature stories of Olivet College's alumni magazine and gained experience and confidence as a feature writer.
I try to bring out the best in people I write about. The stories I have most enjoyed working on have shown the power of the human spirit, the struggles of handicapped people, the value of the modest person who doesn't think he or she is worth writing about.
I also enjoy the "performance" end of writing. I'm one to write a poem for a party or a wedding--or even a funeral, sometimes. Recently my son was married, and I very much enjoyed writing and delivering an essay, "He Does It His Way," about his personality and peculiarities. Friends have come to count on me to come up with a poem for most any occasion, and I pride myself on delivering!"
May inquiries be sent to you about doing workshops, readings: Yes
"Yes, definitely. I do programs on literacy topics and readings of my poems whenever asked, for a fee--or for free, if it's for senior citizens or church or school groups. I have enjoyed facilitating sessions on creative writing, too." Author will answer letters from students and teachers.
