What is the aim or goal of your writing: Her husband, William Ratigan commented, "Like many who were forced by illness to 'lay abed' (Robert Louis Stevenson, for instance) in childhood, Eleanor developed a love for books and music. She had a sharp ear and eye and could mimic the sound of any language without knowing the words. She could imitate anyone. In later school years she fancied herself an opera prima donna and drive her sisters somewhat wild. She loved to dance, especially with her handsome Tennessee father, she was his girl to his death. She collected stamps during her illness, began a collection of famous signatures (now quite unusual) and carried away her first prize in poetry in her senior year of high school. Meanwhile, she and some bright girfriends had formed a 'very sophisticated' poetry club which tended toward writing imitations of Dorothy Parker, Gibran et al. She still loves to recite Gunga Din. Since becoming a seasoned writer, Eleanor always has devoted much of her time to helping aspiring writers, young and old. She has tremendous enthusiasm and is a catalyst to boot. She makes things happen. She has taught adult education courses in creative writing and her students always have found her challenging and inspirational. A dedicatd and no-nonsense craftsman, she has been a tremendous editor; both for the neophytes and for those who have called for her help from the 'Ivory Towers of Academe'."
