What is the aim or goal of your writing: I am an advocate for children and teens with alcoholic loved ones. I am writing contemporary, effective books about parental alcoholism. In my family, alcoholism is a problem. Growing up, I believed these problems were unique to mine. As an adult, I discovered that an estimated 1 in 4 American kids live with at least one parent who abuses alcohol. I believe there needs to be more outreach to young people about alcoholism to foster hope, point them to help and break the addiction cycle in families. My middle-grade novel, Easter Ann Peters' Operation Cool, has been praised by Betty Ford Institute and the national director of the children's program at Betty Ford Center. Currently, my first young adult novel is in progress. I’m also currently writing non-fiction books for kids related to coping when loved ones are addicted to alcohol or other drugs. I hope to find a way to provide these books to young people for free. For readers with alcoholics in their lives, I hope my books remind them that they are not alone and inspire hope. For readers who do not have alcoholics in their lives, I hope they’ll gain a more solid understanding of what alcoholism is, how it affects others and sensitivity to what their classmates, teammates and neighbors may be coping with at home.
