What is the aim or goal of your writing: "To enterain young people, to broaden their view of the world and the people in it, to help them see through another's eyes events that might have happened in the past." 2nd ed. says, " Since I consider myself primarily a children's writer, I guess my philosophy is that my readers deserve the very best I have in me to give. And I am no longer annoyed or threatened by those who say 'you write for children? When are you going to write for adults?' The implication that I'd better grow up and do something worthwhile is simply amusing now, in an age when adults find their greatest literay joys in Lord of the Rings and Watership Down while children are exploring this world in worlds such as Go Ask Alice and Sounder. Although I was born in Indiana, I have lived in Michigan since infancy and consider myself a true Wolverine. Both my published works are Michigan Historical novels for children. Michigan has a fascinating history and as I work on each book, I find myself spending an inordinate amount of time on the research."
