What is the aim or goal of your writing: 2nd ed. says, " In 1951 I decided to 'rock myself into old age, 'reading. The first subject to which I was attracted was the lake (Goguac Lake) on whose bank I lived. Inasmuch as I was unable to find easily obtainable material, and felt that much was surely available, I began a search for it. Local history became an obsession and I have indulged in what was dubbed 'attic archeology' ever since. Talks and writing have pretty much been along that line these 25+ years. Sojourner Truth, Black 18th century reformer, lived here. Many legends had been accepted about her life that needed clarification, so that delving into her truth also became a pet subject. My findings are in Michigan Historical Collections, U of M, and on microfilm. Augmented local history is at Willard Library, Battle Creek, Michigan State Library and elsewhere. My collecting philosophy has been not to buy or sell but to beg and give away. This policy strictly adhered to, has greatly contributed to any success I may have had."
