2nd ed. says, "Marguerite de Angeli's childhood interests: drawing, painting, writing, singing, carried over into her adult life. Her love of family life also found its way into her books. Her pictures and books depict the happy, pious, gentle features of her character. Many of her books are of minority groups and foreign born, and show a child working to attain some degree of maturity set by the parents."
