What is the aim or goal of your writing:
C. Paul Jackson once wrote in Contemporary Authors: "Lots of people think of a writer as somebody different, I suppose. All the writers I know, including myself, do not think we are different than run-of-the-mill people. Certainly there is nothing `highbrow' or aloof about Jackson.
"I wrote short stories for pulp magazines before I wrote books, chiefly because I always enjoyed reading sports stories. My first book was written more because an editor wrote that `while Jackson writes on-field action well done enough to create an illusion of the reader being there, I doubt that he can motivate a book-length manuscript.' Such a challenge has always been like waving a red cloth in front of a bull. I vowed that I would write a book, get it published and send the first copy to that so-and-so. I wrote the book--All-Conference Tackle--and have had more than seventy others published since, but I never sent so-and-so a copy.
"I enjoy writing and I especially enjoy knowing through fan letters and librarians and teachers that a certain amount of entertainment is brought to young readers by books I write. I hope the Man Upstairs continues to grant me the privilege of writing for a long, long time yet."
