What is the aim or goal of your writing: "Historical subjects-Great Lakes oriented." 2nd ed. says, " We retired from Washington in 1966 to our new home south of Cheboygan, MI and became interested in local history and Great Lakes shipping lore. After riding on the train ferry, S. S. Chief Wawatam, as guest of the Captian and Mate, I was aked to write the history of the boat. The men were afreaid she would be scrapped before she could be preserved. So I recorded, photographed, researched, and typed for five years to save the Chief's history. Now we are busy presenting the book to the libraries, schools, and stores in variouis areas near her. Meanwhile we are enjoying the many unusual letters from boat buffs, railroad buffs and 'Chief-lovers' all over the States...we feel that the ol' Chief will be well remembered."
