What is the aim or goal of your writing: She once said, "My greatest single help in writing and illustrating books for children is the circumstance of having come from a large family. All eight of us lived out the noisy ups and downs of childhood on a hill overlooking Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan." Some of her books have Michigan as background, but many are varied, the result of her travels in the Orient and in North and South America.
