The Pig-Tailtwister (as related to the author by Carl Dorski) : A Novel
- A book presenting the 'other side of the coin' from the standpoint of professional criminal, as the central character, not particularily as a hero, but more as a figure who thinks, talks, and acts like a real human being, subject to the usual weaknesses, fears and anxieties of ordinary people, in like circumstances of our present generation.
Fiction Adult Hicksville, NY : Exposition Press 1977
What is the aim or goal of your writing: 2nd ed. says, "In the Pit-Tailtwister, I attempted to use the factual information from actual criminal cases which I handled over a long period of years, either as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, or as defense counsel. The events related in the book, about various crimes, are authentic. The romanitc episodes, and the humorous episodes in the book are fictitious. I wanted to create a story that would discourage the 'would-be criminal', by showing how the character in my book, Carl Dorski, lives in a constant state of fear and anxiety for his freedom. By the same token, I wanted to illustrate how the average professional criminal learns that he cannot trust his friends, and perhaps cannot even trust himself, or his own personal instincts. On the other side of the picture, I also attempted to make the book worthwhile for the average 'businessman' to read, as it might prove helpful to the honest 'businessman' to learn about the tactics used by professional criminals in burglaries, safe-cracking, counterfeiting, and other crimes involing trickery. With the objects in mind, I attempted to accomplish these purposes in a story that would be fast moving, and interesting, and entertaining for the reader. I believe I have accomplished what I set out to do in The Pig-Tailtwister. In writng my first book, I also came to the conclusion that the public has been bombarded with stories, movies, television shows for a long time, in which the central hero character is a policeman, policewoman, private detective, or international spy. I felt that the public must be getting bored with so many of the same type of stories, and I thought that it was time that someone write a book presenting the 'other side of the coin' from the standpoint of professional criminal, as the central character, not particularily as a hero, but more as a figure who thinks, talks, and acts like a real human being, subject to the usual weaknesses, fears and anxieties of ordinary people, in like circumstances of our present generation. I do not regard my book as a 'literary gem' it is simply a story about a criminal who tries to cope with the problems of 'easy money'. and staying out of jail. Last of all, I might add that I feel somewhat proud to be a native of Michigan, and that I can, at least, make a very small contributio to the literary heritage of the State of Michigan."
