What is the aim or goal of your writing:
"Memory."
2nd ed. says, " I'm especially interested in various kinds of short fiction-from 2 to 50 pages. I've been writing and publishing stories for 15 years, but most of these, whether traditional or experimental, average 15 pages. But a story needn't be that length any more than a TV program needs to be 27 or 54 minutes. A lot can be done in 3-4 paragraphs--a return to the parable, perhaps. On the other hand, a story of, say, 50 pages can be fun; it allows development of characters, description, related themes, etc. Too long for magazine editors, too short for book publishers, it is a 'pure' form and I find myself liberated while working within its bountiful latitudes. Writing is hard work; a writer has it tougher than any tradesman, and with less monetary rewards. But I maintain writers aren't born-they emerge and develop. If someone really wants to write, and he works at it, he'll get published."
