What is the aim or goal of your writing: Contemporary Authors says, "While trying out his dream of becoming an actor and playwright, he took a job in 1932 for Life Magazine when they included a novelty crossword feature, a gigantic "cockeyed" puzzle that covered an entire two-page spread. Constructing puzzles quicky became his main occupation. Life called them "cockeyed" because the definitions were to be outrageously misleading and whenever possible funny...all words had to be in the average reader's vocabulary. The only one he could recall was a four-letter word meaning 'a bender you can take the children on'. The answer was knee."
