Search Tips

The Michigan Cemetery Sources web site assists patrons in locating Michigan cemetery readings in the Library’s collection and on the Internet.

Here are some basic tips to help maximize your search results:

  • You can search by an individual county, township, cemetery name, or any combination of these.
  • Searches are NOT case sensitive. You can search for lansing, Lansing, or LANSING.
  • When searching for cemetery names such as St. John or Mt. Hope, Saint or Mount should be spelled out.
  • You do NOT need to include apostrophes. For example, you can use either o’dell or odell.
  • Remember that the date listed for each title is the publication date of the transcription, not the date of the headstone reading itself.
  • If you are having difficulty locating a specific cemetery, try searching just one field or using a keyword search.
  • Any questions about this site should be forwarded to the Help Desk at librarian@michigan.gov
